UC Annual Award - UCD Nominates a Candidate (Fall Call)

Description and Eligibility:

This annual UC-wide award recognizes outstanding scholarly work and/or educational service since retirement (such as service in professional, university, academic senate, emeriti, departmental, or editorial posts or committees) performed by a University of California Academic Senate emeritus/ae in the humanities or social sciences. The award consists of a cash prize and certificate.

 

Nomination: 

At UC Davis, collection, review and evaluation of nominations is delegated by the Vice Provost to the UCDEA Awards and Recognition Committee who coordinate the collection of nominations.

  1. The UCDEA well as the appropriate deans and provost on each campus are asked to solicit nominations for this award from their constituent departments. Self-nomination is also acceptable. 
  2. The nomination packet should include:  
    1. Cover letter of nomination outlining the nominee’s distinctive scholarly work and/or educational service since retirement
    2. The nominee’s CV listing accomplishments since retirement
    3. Supporting letters from three to five references
 
Evaluation and Selection:  
  1. The packet will be evaluated by the Awards and Recognition Committee (ARC) for:
  1. Completeness:  All of the elements described above most be present in the packet for further consideration for the award.  
  2. Quality of contribution: Quality as well as quantity of contribution will be considered.  The ARC will consider whether the nominee’s record is deemed outstanding and impactful, surpassing expectations for emeriti faculty, and whether the individual brings honor to the University of California through their work.  
  1. Based on their evaluation, ARC will select a nominee as the finalist, and will share their recommendation with the Executive Committee for review and decision.
  2. The ARC will work with the Retiree Center to submit the finalist approved by the UCDEA Executive Committee to the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs for final review and approval and submission of the dossier (cover letter, CV and letters of reference) to UCLA, who leads the system-wide competition. 
  3. If the UCD nominee is selected for the UC-wide competition, a free lifetime membership in the UCDEA will be offered.
