Awards and Recognition
The UC Davis Emeriti Association Awards and Recognition committee coordinates and is responsible for the distribution of three awards given annually by the association. These awards are:
Edward A. Dickson served as a Regent of the University of California from 1913 to 1946, the longest tenure of any regent. In 1955, Mr. Dickson presented the University with an endowment to support and maintain special annual professorships to be awarded to retired academic senate faculty members. The nomination period is during the spring quarter each year.
The award is described in the gift document as follows:
“For the support and maintenance of special annual Professorships in the University of California to which shall be appointed by the President, with approval of The Regents, persons of academic rank who have been retired after service in the University of California and who shall receive such awards in addition to their retirement or pension allowances. Awards shall be made upon such conditions of service, research, or teaching as The Regents may require. Professorships so awarded shall be known as the Edward A. Dickson Emeriti Professorships.”
- The Constantine Panunzio Award
The Constantine Panunzio Distinguished Emeriti Award, consisting of a cash prize and a certificate, recognizes the outstanding scholarly work and/or educational service (such as service in professional, University, Academic Senate, emeriti, departmental, or editorial posts or committees) performed by a University of California emeritus or emerita, in the humanities or social sciences, since his or her retirement. The appropriate deans and provost on each campus are asked to solicit nominations for this award from their constituent departments. Each Emeriti Association is also invited to prepare a nomination. These nominations may also originate from a self-nomination. The president of the Emeriti Association is asked to coordinate the collection of nominations and recommend a campus nomination to the Provost for review. The nomination period is during the fall quarter each year.
- The UC Davis Distinguished Emerita/us Award
The UC Davis Distinguished Emeritus/a Award was first awarded in 2007/2008 in recognition of outstanding scholarly work or service performed by a UC Davis emeritus or emerita since retirement. The award is given by the UC Davis Emeriti Association, and the honoree is selected by the association’s Awards and Recognition Committee. Deans, department chairs, the provost, and members of the Emeriti Association may nominate individuals for the award. The nomination period is during the fall quarter each year. The award will include recognition at the Chancellor's Emeriti Luncheon, a memento, and/or monetary recognition.
